We work very closely with WNYHeroes, Inc. which is a non-profit organization that provides assistance in many different ways to disabled veterans. WNYHeries, Inc. is based in Western New York, and covers 20 counties.
We work primarily through the Pawsitive for Heroes program which provides service dogs to veterans in need at no cost to the veterans. Our veterans struggle with military related PTSD, anxiety, night terrors, mobility problems and other disabilities. Our goal is to improve daily life for our veterans, so they are able to go in public on a regular basis with the assistance of their service dog.
We have expanded The Pawsitive for Heroes program into Jefferson and Clearfield Counties in Pennsylvania. The disabled veterans in these counties are also provided service dogs at no cost.
Each year, it is a part of our mission to help save dogs out of kill shelters. We work with Texas based rescues to find dogs who are good service dog candidates.
Our rescues do an initial evaluation on the service dog prospects, then send them up to New York for further evaluating to make sure they are the right fit. These dogs are started in their training before they are placed with their veteran and other private clients, where they go continue to go through training together.
